Healthy Alkaline Dog Treats Recipe

Healthy Alkaline Dog Treats Recipe

Celebrate Love Your Pet Day with these simple-to-make alkaline dog treats that are sure to please your pup. The natural ingredients make them a healthy alternative to most store-bought dog bones. They’re loaded with low fat, high fiber ingredients which provide important nutrients to keep your dog’s skin, coat, eyes, nerves, and muscles in optimal condition. The pumpkin and carrots are high in beta carotene and antioxidants while the peanut butter and spelt (or buckwheat) flour provide a good dose of fiber.

Dogs need fiber, too!

Alkaline Dog Treats Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1/3 cup unsweetened peanut butter (It’s vitally important that there is no xylitol sweetener in the peanut butter as it is poisonous for dogs; use all natural peanut butter with no additives)
  • 1/2 cup canned unsweetened and unflavored pumpkin OR roasted sweet potato
  • 1 large grated carrot (about 1 cup grated)
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder (aluminum free)
  • 2 cups spelt or buckwheat flour
  • 2/3 cup alkaline water

Follow this 5 easy steps:

1. Heat your oven to 350 degrees F. Line a baking sheet with a silicone liner or parchment paper.

2. Mix all the ingredients together in a large bowl. (Use your hands for the easiest method!)

3. When the mixture is completely blended, put the ball of dough on the baking sheet liner and spread it out with your hands until it is about ½” thick.

4. You can quickly slice the dough into squares with a pizza cutter, or for more fun (especially if you’re working with kids) use a dog bone cookie cutter. Just press out the scrap of dough until it’s all used up.

5. Bake the treats for 22 minutes. Let them cool in the pan. Store treats in a plastic bag or container in your refrigerator. There aren’t any preservatives in the treats, so refrigeration is recommended for storage.
