8 Reasons To Start Your Day With Lemon Water

Drinking Lemon Water

Lemon water is a highly beneficial part of your health and beauty regime, especially when taken first thing in the morning. It can be served hot or cold and is so easy to incorporate into your routine there is no excuse not to do it.

Here are 8 benefits of adding lemon water to your daily routine

1) Boosts Your Immune System

Lemons are high in vitamin C, which is essential for fighting colds. The recommended daily amount of vitamin C is 75 mg for women and 90 mg for men. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, One lemon gives 30.7 mg vitamin C. Lemons are also high in potassium, which stimulates brain and nerve function and helps control blood pressure.

2) Balances pH

Drinking lemon water daily decreases your body's acidity. This may be counter intuitive because lemons are seen as an acidic fruit, but once metabolized, lemons are one of the most alkaline foods available.

3) Aids In Weight Loss

Lemon water aids in weight loss because lemons are high in pectin fiber, which helps fight hunger cravings.

4) Improves Digestion & Cleanses The System

Lemon juice helps flush out unwanted materials and encourages the liver to produce bile which is required for digestion. Efficient digestion reduces heartburn and constipation. Lemon also flushes out the toxins in your body by enhancing enzyme function, stimulating your liver and promoting urination to release the toxins and purify the body.

5) Clears Your Skin

The antioxidants in lemon juice help to not only decrease blemishes, but wrinkles too! It can also be applied to scars and age spots to reduce their appearance, and because it’s detoxifying your blood, it will maintain your skin’s radiance.

6) Freshens Your Breath

Lemon water will freshen your breath and relieve toothaches and gingivitis. Because the citric acid can erode tooth enamel it is recommended you brush your teeth before drinking it.

7) Relieves Respiratory Problems & Fights Viral Infection

Warm lemon water helps get rid of chest infections, coughs, and the sore throats that usually come with them. It’s thought to be helpful to people with asthma and allergies too.

8) Balances You Mentally

Vitamin C is one of the first things depleted when your mind and body become stressed. As mentioned previously, lemons are chock full of vitamin C.

If lemon water isn't already part of your daily routine, I hope one of these eight reasons will give you a reason to add it. Squeezing half a lemon into a glass of warm or cold water in the morning is the perfect way to start your day.
