How is alkaline water different from regular water?

The main difference between alkaline water and regular water lies in their pH levels. Regular water, which is typically neutral with a pH of around 7, does not have the same pH-altering qualities as alkaline water, which usually has a pH between 8 and 9. The higher pH in alkaline water means it is less acidic than regular water, which is believed to help balance acidity in the body. In addition to its pH level, alkaline water often contains alkaline minerals like calcium, magnesium, and potassium, which can contribute to the water’s potential health benefits.

Another difference is that some alkaline water is created through ionization or electrolysis. During this process, water undergoes an electric current that separates it into two streams: one acidic and one alkaline. The alkaline water is then bottled and consumed, with proponents claiming it provides enhanced hydration and other health benefits. This process can result in smaller clusters of water molecules, which may make the water easier for the body to absorb compared to regular water. Alkaline water sourced from natural springs also gets its higher pH from mineral-rich environments, which further distinguishes it from regular tap or bottled water.

While both regular water and alkaline water serve to hydrate the body, the additional minerals and higher pH level of alkaline water are what many believe set it apart. However, regular water remains an excellent source of hydration for most people, and not everyone will need or notice a difference when switching to alkaline water.
